• Males and females are similar, with males having a slightly longer, more pointed snout
• Lake trout can be distinguished from other chars by the absence of pink spots and their deeply forked tail
• The flesh of lake trout varies from creamy white to deep orange

There’s a reason why trout like it at Great Slave Lake – they prefer large, deep, cold lakes where they can spend their entire lives. Spawning occurs over the clean, rocky lake bottom from September through November.

In addition, trolling slowly through deep, colder water layers and along steep rock walls or drop offs produces good catches of lake trout.
