Lake Trout Pictures
Lake trout are one of Canada’s largest freshwater fish. Just look at some of these pictures!
As you can see, they have a body shape similar to that of salmon but some of their unique characteristics include:
- Small, light, irregular shaped spots on a silvery-to-dark background but colour can vary considerably throughout the lake depending on what they are eating and the habitat they live in.
- Males and females are often tough to differentiate. Males typically have a slightly longer, more pronounced snout or “kype”.
- Lake trout can be distinguished from other Char species by the absence of pink spots and their deeply forked tail
- The flesh of lake trout varies from pale white to deep orange and even bright red depending on their food source.
