How will I get to Yellowknife in Canada’s Northwest Territories?
To guarantee easy, direct flights, it’s best to fly into Edmonton, Alberta. Airlines Canadian North, Air Canada, Westjet and First Air have several daily flights from Edmonton to Yellowknife.
Once you have booked a flight with either airline, we recommend staying at the Nisku Inn (780) 955-7744 hotel in the Edmonton area should you require overnight accommodations. Frontier Fishing Lodge guests are offered special rates at this hotel, so be sure to tell them you are fishing with us.
If planning to stay in Yellowknife, we recommend the Yellowknife Inn (867) 873-2601, Explorer Hotel (867) 873-3531, or the Chateau Nova (867) 873-9700 during your travels. Frontier Fishing Lodge guests have special rates at all of these hotels, so make sure to tell them you are fishing with us.
How will I get to the Frontier Fishing Lodge?
- You will depart your hotel in Yellowknife for the 7:30 a.m. (Saturday) or 11:00 a.m. (Tuesday) departure of our charter flight to Frontier Fishing Lodge
- After a comfortable 50 minute flight, you will land right at the lodge
- Once you land, you are warmly welcomed at the lodge where we provide you with details about your cabin and your stay with us
- You will then enjoy a tasty, home-cooked brunch. We’ll get you ready for your Canada fly in fishing adventure!
Is there a luggage restriction on the flight from Yellowknife?
Yes, 50 lbs. per person. However, you are also allowed a rod case (which is not included in the 50 lbs.)
What type of Canada fishing packages do you offer?
Rates for our Canada fishing trips:
- Saturday to Saturday – $3350.00 + 5% tax for 6 1/2 days guided fishing
- Saturday to Tuesday – $1995.00 + 5% tax for 3 days guided fishing
- Tuesday to Saturday – $2195.00 + 5% tax for 3 1/2 days guided fishing
Do you sell Northwest Territories fishing licenses at your Canada fishing lodge?
Yes, the cost for a non-resident is approximately $43.00 CDN per person. For kids under 16 years old there is no fee.
Do I have to bring my own fishing equipment?
We do recommend bringing your own quality equipment. However we do have loaner rods & reels that you can use at no charge. We also have a great selection of lures available in our general store.
How much should I tip?
This is a question that is asked frequently and has no definitive answer. If you are satisfied with the service you received, your tip should reflect that satisfaction.
A gratuity of approximately 10% per person is common:
Guide: 3 days $90.00 / 3 ½ days $105.00 / 6 ½ days $195.00
Lodge Staff Pool: 3 days $35.00 / 3 ½ days $40.00 / 6 ½ days $80.00
Please Note: Gratuities are a personal matter and may be given when you are satisfied with the level of service you received. These are suggested guidelines only. Please feel free to adjust the gratuity to what you personally feel comfortable with.
What should I bring with me?
The following is a list of recommended clothing and personal equipment to bring on Canadian fishing trips:
- Identification and/or passport (as required) for Canadian Customs
- Rain jacket and water-proof pants
- High quality windbreaker
- Hiking boots/shoes
- Warm sweaters
- Long underwear
- Runners/casual shoes
- Long-sleeve shirts, wool or chamois
- Jeans, cotton pants
- Medium and heavy weight socks
- Hat with brim/visor
- Toiletries and notions
- Medication (if necessary)
- Insect repellent
- Sunglasses
- Sunscreen and lip balm
- Digital camera/video camera/film/batteries

Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) usually start to become visible in mid- to late August. Later in the season is better.

What types of wildlife can I expect to see?
The Canadian wilderness surrounding Frontier Fishing Lodge is teeming with a variety of animals, including white wolves, bald eagles, caribou, and moose among others.
When the trip is complete, how do I get back to Yellowknife?
- Our staff will pick up your luggage and load it onto the aircraft
- The charter will depart Frontier Fishing Lodge around 9:00 a.m. on Saturdays and 12:00 noon on Tuesdays
- Upon arrival in Yellowknife, you can make an easy connection to your flight home
